Hi! I’m Simone Burns, an author-illustrator born and raised in Portland, Oregon. My grounded storytelling focuses on characters and emotion. Like making spaghetti with whatever’s in the fridge, I love working with a spontaneous mixed media process. Back and forth between analogue and digital, crayon and collage, salt and chili powder. With this playful attitude comes a unique flavor and a bit of magic.

As a seventh generation Portlander, no street corner is just a corner to me. Each one is a few blocks from my elementary school, or my grandma’s old house, or the sketchy saloon my mom’s great-great-grandpa owned in 1912. This point of view informs my thought process in big and small ways. Whether it’s set in Portland or Minneapolis or a fictional fantasy universe, there’s always a sense of place or home.
